Gambusia punctata
$3.00 – $5.00
Description
Gambusia punctata, the Cuban Blue-Eyed Gambusia hails from Cuba as the common name indicates. Unlike its relative, G. affinis, the Mosquito Fish, this fish is peaceful. Females are large, growing to three inches (~8cm). Males reach about 2/3 that size and are much slimmer. Both sexes have baby blue eyes. Males sometimes sport yellowish fins. Conditions suitable for guppies, swordtails, and platies are perfect for this fish.
We got this species from from Ivan Dibble May 2008. It was collected from a river 7km (~4.5 miles) east of Correlillo, Cuba by Don Kenwood March 2005.

When I buy freshwater fish online, particularly wild type livebearers, I want to find someone who knows fish. This little fish improves with age and has a neat pedigree, but I’ll leave that for Charles to explain sometime, I emailed and asked.
The reason I buy tropical fish online is for the comfort knowing real experts are behind the scenes and the ability to find rare tropical fish like these gems.

Jim, I’m glad they got there in good shape. They do have the prettiest blue eyes! I sent young fish that just reached sexual maturity. They will grow a lot.

Nick,
I’m sorry for the tardy response. I just saw this message.
I’m glad they are doing well for you. They will get much larger.
