Description
Gold OB Dolphin is an aquarium strain derived from one or more of the peacock cichlids (mainly in the genus Aulonocara) from Lake Malawi in eastern Africa. We developed this strain from a male peacock with a nuchal hump (head hump) reminiscent of that of a male Cyrtocara moori. He was mated to females from our Gold OB Peacock strain. We continue to select for a nuchal hump. Males often reach 20cm (~8 in.). Females are considerably smaller. Males are gold with black blotching (the OB color pattern). Males sport pointed anal and dorsal fins and elongated pelvic fins. They also have a few gold egg-spots on the anal fin. Females are also gold with OB spotting color. Females, unlike the males, don’t have pointed fins. This fish’s ancestors hail from Lake Malawi in eastern Africa.
