Labeotropheus trewavasae ‘Lavender-Gold’ is an aquarium strain of an mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi in eastern Africa. Our strain was developed by us from fish we acquired from a commercial source in 2003. We began developing this strain in 2003. Males often reach 15cm (6 in.). Females are somewhat smaller. Males are gold and lavender and often have red dorsals. Females are gold sometimes with black mottling. This species hails from Lake Malawi in eastern Africa. This is an aquarium strain and likely does not exist in nature.
