Description
Blue Dragon Peacock is an aquarium strain derived from one or more of the peacock cichlids (mainly in the genus Aulonocara) from Lake Malawi in eastern Africa. We developed this strain from our Red Dragon Blood Peacock strain. The blue body color is recessive to the gold body of Red Dragon Bloods. The original stock of Red Dragon Bloods we got carried this recessive gene. Males often reach 20cm (~8 in.). Females are considerably smaller. Males are blue with red mixed in, almost purple. We continue to select for purple coloration. Males sport pointed anal and dorsal fins and elongated pelvic fins. They also have a few gold egg-spots on the anal fin. Females are dark grey. Females, unlike the males, don’t have pointed fins.
