Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the American Livebearer Association’s 2013 convention and show. But, I did ship fish to the show and auction. Rick Borstein picked them up in Chicago and delivered them to the show. We did fairly well. A male Poecilia mexicana, Campeche took best non-Goodeid wild type livebearer (see the photo for the award).
What made me think of this is ALA just picked the site for next year’s convention. It’ll be in St. Louis and hosted by Missouri Aquarium Society. The convention will run from May 15th – 18th. This year I will attend since the convention is later in the year. The typical April dates for ALA conventions interferes with our operations too much. The mid-May time frame works a lot better since we will have finished preparing for summer (it’s already summer by late April here).
If you keep livebearing fish, be sure to consider joining the ALA. You’ll get access to rare wild and commercial livebearers and get a useful bulletin concerning livebearers.
