Lake Champlain Vermont

Otter Valley Vermont Talk

In May I spoke at the Otter Valley Aquarium Society in Vermont. Their meeting is on the top floor of a very interesting library building. Interesting architecture. My presentation was on Breeding Techniques, mainly from a genetics viewpoint. It was the first time I’d used this presentation. It went well enough, but I discovered people were eager for more about our hatchery. I supplemented the presentation with slides from my Hatchery Operations presentation. I didn’t do that presentation because our hosts (Dave and Janine Banks) thought many of the attendees would have heard it at NEC only last month. NEC was in Connecticut, only a few hours away.

It was nice to see some younger hobbyists attend their first meeting. Youth is needed.

For more about Otter Valley Aquarium Society, see their newsletter for May 2013.

After the meeting, we went to the Banks’ home where we were staying. It’s a wonderful place on Lake Champlain. Janine maintains a well-planted, beautiful yard. The next morning Susie and I acted as unskilled labor helping (or hindering) Janine’s preparation for her annual Perennial Plant sale on the next weekend. The evening ended with some nice wine and conversation.
