Ashley, one of our employees found an albino cockroach (Periplaneta americana, common names American cockroach and waterbug) in the office bathroom on another employee’s (Robyn) boots that are left here for when they are necessary. I photographed it in its habitat, next to the boots. When I told the two employees I was going to blog about the roach, they actually argued about whose roach it was! So, I’m giving them both credit, Ashley for finding it and Robyn for providing it a home.
I’m considering putting it a critter cage and giving it a mate. I think this is a male since the wings extend beyond to end of the abdomen, which doesn’t happen in females.

Growing up in New Orleans as a young kid I remember seeing these cock roaches from time to time. I don’t think I ever saw an albino cock roach but seen a few of the smaller common roaches with the albino color. What sticks in my mind is having one fly in my direction and run me out of my house. LoL.

It may have molted recently. I raised a couple species before and they are white after a molt for a short period of time. If it is a true oddity, it would be interesting to let it breed.

This roach hung around a couple of days and never darkened. Unfortunately, I think he tired of being watched and moved on.

Gabriela,
I’d never heard of an albino cockroach either.
